#1: Can you describe your movie and why somebody should see it?

Comedy about the family we chose, and didn’t! Come see “Is You Is” if you’ve ever wanted to kiss then strangle your people.

#2: What do you want the Borrego Springs Film Festival audience to know about your film that isn’t obvious from its title?

I don’t know if you’d immediately get it from the title, but “Is You Is” is a comedy that we want you laugh with from start to finish. We say laugh “with” because there are so many characters in this installment of the Candice & Peter escapades commenting on each other’s silliness that the everyone walks away amused. We’re not trying to be high-brow, how can you be when you have a character peeing in a bucket, we’re trying to make you laugh. And I hope we succeed.

#3: What is your movie making background? Tell us about yourself.

The “Sanderine Brothers” are made up of directing duo Bry Thomas Sanders and Kelly Perine. Having met in 1987 on their first day entering Pomona College, Bry and Kelly have carved separate paths to their individual Hollywood success before coming back together to helm a number of award-winning films.

Graduating from USC School of Cinema & Television, after Pomona’s BA in Drama, Bry has Directed/DP’d everything from MasterChef iPhone Academy to Biggest Loser: Pound for Pound. So “Sanderine Brother” Bry can wield a camera, select the lense, and give you a shot that is cinematically pristine.

Since graduating from Pomona with a Film Studies degree, then attending UC Irvine where he received an MFA in drama, Kelly has been a mainstay on television. He is recognized everywhere he goes from his starring roles on The Drew Carey Show, One On One, Seinfeld, Between Brothers, and Knight Squad. “Sanderine Brother” Kelly understands the actor’s process, knows how to pull a performance out of even the most shy actor, and loves being around creative and talented people more than he loves bacon.

With a combined 50+ years in the industry, Bry and Kelly decided to team up and create some of the most unique fare being produced. Their film “Downward Hiro” won numerous Best Short Film awards and the feature script for the project has garnered glowing Black List reviews and is currently being shopped around.

#4: What was the biggest lesson learned in getting your film made?

I think we continue to re-learn the same lesson on each of our movies; that these projects don’t get made without a team of uber-talented people rowing together in the same direction. And we remember that making films is a labor of love. It has to be because it’s tough to get these things made. Even thought it’s a short, “Is You Is” took us a year to get it ready to show. But we keep re-learning that patience and persistence are virtues. Well at least I know 1 of them is.

#5: What does the future hold for your film and you?

Separately Kelly will continue acting & writing, and Bry will continue directing and DP’ing Hollywood’s hottest projects. “Is You Is” is primed to take the festival circuit by storm, and Borrego Springs is one of our kick-off, and favorite, festivals. We have written a sit-com project “Foxton,” based on the “Is You Is” characters Candice & Peter, and we are attaching top talent for the upcoming TV series. The Sanderine Brothers expect to be shooting the series in 2020.
