#1: Can you describe your movie and why somebody should see it?
It’s a hilarious musical set in a Montreal subway station. Meet Henry and Abigail: two human-like pay phones who tap dance and tango their way into love. Who says old pay phones are useless? Not these two. Unique and amusingly creative, the film brings smiles to every viewer. They’ll never look at old phones in the same way after seeing TAPPING TANGO.
#2: What do you want the Borrego Springs Film Festival audience to know about your film that isn’t obvious from its title?
The film is a short animation that instantly draws in the audiences with extraordinary surprises. It incorporates dancing moves spontaneously where two phones really end up ringing each others “bell”.
#3: What is your movie making background? Tell us about yourself.
This is my first film ever. I have acted in front of the camera in Canada and the USA, but never have a directed a film – let alone an animation short. I have written and published a novel (Floating on Lily Pads) and a poetry/short story book (Beyond the Dream: Epic Solitude). I was interviewed on radio and in Mexico about these books. I have written several children’s books – one which was nominated for an award here in Canada. I have three CDS out as a singer/songwriter. I play banjo in it.
#4: What was the biggest lesson learned in getting your film made?
I learned that vision and your own clear-sighted direction really helps all those working on your film. Tenacity and humor help bring your film to its finish. It is not an easy feat to create an animation. Communication is so important for others to seize your detailed vision. Be open to other ideas as well.
#5: What does the future hold for your film and you?
The film has garnered best Animation in several festivals along with over 26 Official Selections. I really wish to find a distributor for the film as the audience relations along with these honors indicate the enduring appeal of the film for all ages. It was also selected to be shown on MA, a local TV channel here in Montreal.
I am presently creating another animation film, I feel very encouraged to do so by audience reaction to my film at festivals I have attended. I hope Borrego audiences will enjoy the film.
