5Q's w/: Bob Celli "Because I Love You" Director, Writer, Producer
QUESTION#1: What excited you the most when making this film?: The chance to work with some actors I had wanted to collaborate with for some time. Anytime you’re able to work with people you respect and admire it’s a huge win.
QUESTION#2: What was the most significant film you've seen AT THE THEATER in 2024, and how did it influence your filmmaking?: There are quite a few and it’s always hard to pick one. It’s my belief that there is always something in every film that will influence ones filmmaking decisions. But, to name one, Conclave. Similar to his film All Quiet on the Western Front, director Edward Berger constructs Conclave as a fully-immersive experience. Ralph Fiennes is at the top of his game as Cardinal Lawrence. His masterful combination of restraint and intensity are palpable.
QUESTION#3: What's an obvious and not-so-obvious question someone might ask about your film?: What’s your relationship with your wife like? What is the meaning behind Marco’s last name and company name?
QUESTION#4: A magic movie genie is giving you an unlimited budget for your next production! However, you're only allowed to use it on either "above line" or "below line" resouces. Which do you choose and why?: Kind of a trick question for me, as all aspects of the process need to be firing to have a successful film. Story, production, and talent. For a short film, always below the line, unless of course you’re friends with Meryl Streep and she’ll work for SAG scale and food. For a feature, above the line would make the film more palatable for distribution.
QUESTION#5: What is it about your current movie that will influence your next film?: I’ve always enjoyed films that make the audience feel as though they are a fly on the wall, that they are in the same space as the characters. I made Because I Love You as a sexy, slow burn, part suspense, part thriller, and part dark comedy film. Life is never one thing or the other.
