5Q's w/Sam Baron "Big Ears" Director, Writer
QUESTION#1: Can you describe your film in one sentence?:
Big Ears is a tragicomedy about a struggling actor who finds a lump on his balls and is forced to face up to his life choices.
QUESTION#2: What would you like the BSFF audience to know about your film that they wouldn't consider from it's title?:
Big Ears might be the saddest comedy you'll ever see - you might not even know if you're allowed to laugh. The secret is that you can! You might feel terrible about it, but this film is all about finding little pockets of joy in the sadness.
QUESTION#3: Can you tell us about yourself and your filmmaking career?:
I like to make tragicomedies about toxic masculinity-stories about people suffering the consequences of a patriarchal society that has taught men to repress their natural feelings, wants and needs. I hope that by shining a light on these things, I can be part of changing assumptions about how men should behave, in a way that makes life better for everyone, not just men.
QUESTION#4: What have you learned in the process of making your film?:
I learned that if you know the core of the story you're telling - why it's important to you - then the more you share that with your collaborators, and trust them to bring their own truths to it, the better your film will be.
QUESTION#5: What's does the future hold for this film and you?:
This is the second short film I've made with Amit Shah, after our first collaboration "The Orgy". Our third short film, "Tall Dark and Handsome", will be playing at festivals next year, and we hope that the trilogy will help us make the leap to creating feature-length films and television at last!
