5Q's w/Athena Mandis "Daughter" Director, Producer

QUESTION#1: Can you describe your film in one sentence?:

It’s a drama about belonging and family

QUESTION#2: What would you like the BSFF audience to know about your film that they wouldn't consider from it's title?:

The film ask questions around family and our expectations with regard what it means to be a mother and a daughter.

QUESTION#3: Can you tell us about yourself and your filmmaking career?:

I guess I am a late bloomer and self-taught. I came to film by accident following a career in theatre. I am currently working on my first feature which was inspired by an earlier short Losing Grace. I have three others in development. I am lucky enough to teach film at university and this keeps me in my toes.

QUESTION#4: What have you learned in the process of making your film?:

Every film takes you on a journey. This one in particular was interesting as it was developed during lockdown - with lots of meetings with Lynne (Amme) in my garden. What we all felt with this project was to work with what we had and make it. Jo (the writer) and I had been developing her script for a year before so we were keen to see this made.

QUESTION#5: What's does the future hold for this film and you?:

We are hoping to get this distributed and make it more available. We have had some heart-felt responses to this film because of the subject matter. Jo Harper had a play on in London which opens in February and I hope to shoot my feature by next year.
