5Q's w/Jason C. Brown "Meet Cute" Director
#1: Can you describe your movie and why somebody should see it in less than 140 characters?
Meet Cute is a short rom-com in which two strangers connect at a funeral home. It’s a lovely little story with a mischievous sense of humor
#2: What do you want the Borrego Springs Film Festival audience to know about your film that isn’t obvious from its title?
The film combines loss and humor, and although it is fiction, Meet Cute pays homage to loved ones who have recently passed.
#3: What is your movie making background? Tell us about yourself.
I've been a member of the Directors Guild of America for the past 10 years and have worked as an assistant director in Los Angeles for the past 15. As an AD, I've worked on the television shows The Mindy Project, NCIS: LA and Drunk History. Prior to Meet Cute, I've directed four other short films and this is my first collaboration with writer/actor Erin O'Shea.
#4: What was the biggest lesson learned in getting your film made?
For me, the biggest lesson learned in making Meet Cute was in securing a location in LA. That was our biggest hurdle as a production team and one that took a lot of scouting, a ton of phone calls and months to secure. Outside of that, surrounding the entire project with experienced professionals who believed in the story was key to turning out such and amazing finished piece.
#5: What does the future hold for your film and you?
Currently, Meet Cute is making its way around the country on the film festival circuit and we look forward to being able to get as many eyes on it as possible. We hope that it serves as an acting, writing and directing showcase piece for myself and Erin. The two of us are in preproduction on another short that we hope to film in 2021.
