#1: Can you describe your movie and why somebody should see it in less than 280 characters?
BRIDE OF FRANKIE is darkly comedic period piece that combines the aesthetics of James Whale's 1935 BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN with the strong feminist voices from Mary Shelley's novel to create a new spin on an old classic (featuring unforgettable period music by Janet Klein and her Parlor Boys).
#2: What do you want the Borrego Springs Film Festival audience to know about your film that isn’t obvious from its title?
It's a modest proof-of-concept short for a much larger-in-scale feature that incorporates Amelia Earhart, and an alternate theory to what really happened to her, in its fantastical, whimsical plot.
#3: What is your movie making background? Tell us about yourself.
I’m a former ballerina, published fiction author and part-time film instructor at the University of Notre Dame. I’m also a proud alumnus of the AFI Directing Workshop for Women and selected participant to the 2017 AFI/Fox Studios Bridge program. My screenplays have won over 30 awards, placing in such competitions as the PAGE Awards, Nicholl Fellowships and Slamdance film fest. My films have screened at over 500 festivals worldwide, garnering awards, distribution and critical acclaim. When I’m not writing and making darkly comedic, female-driven films, I chase monkeys around the world with my anthropologist partner.
#4: What was the biggest lesson learned in getting your film made?
When shooting for black and white, one must choose costume, prop/set design and makeup color tones with careful consideration as dark red, for example, can register the same as black, and too many similar shades overlapping can create a flat, undefined look.
#5: What does the future hold for your film and you?
If all goes well, BRIDE OF FRANKIE, the short, will help pave the way for BRIDE OF FRANKIE, the feature, based on my award-winning script. Prior, however, I aim to shoot what I hope will be my breakout feature, GIRL TROUBLE -- a Trump-era horror film with the satirical spirit of Jordan Peele's GET OUT and the gothic feminine sensibility of Brian De Palma's CARRIE.
