As we've mentioned, The Borrego Springs of the 1950's was a favorite hideaway for film actors that wanted to escape the grind of Hollywood. Marilyn Monroe, Bing Crosby, Leo Carrillo, Burgess Meredith, Gale Gordon, and John Wayne were just of few of the A-List stars who called Borrego their haven.
However, Borrego Springs has always hosted a celestial cast. All you have to do is look up at night!
In 2009 Borrego Springs received the unique distinction of being designated an International Dark Sky Community (by the International Dark Sky Association), the first in California. Read the Official Press Release.
IDA's principal approach is to raise awareness about the value of dark, star-filled night skies and encourage their protection and restoration through education about the problems and solutions, including outdoor lighting practices that create less light pollution.*
