Borrego Springs: More than Meets the Eye

You might think of Borrego Springs as a very small and remote desert town, and you would be right. The natives are proud of the fact that the nearest traffic light is 50 miles away. The honorary Mayor is tasked each year with making sure it stays that way. Since Borrego is separated from the rest of California by the huge and mountainous Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, the Mayor's task is probably not going to be too difficult.

But there is a lot more to this village than meets the eye. There are at least 10 lodging establishments here ranging from a luxury B&B (Borrego Valley Inn) and a 5-star full service Hotel (La Casa del Zorro) to inexpensive motels. In addition there are several RV parks and campgrounds, including one of the highest rated RV Resorts in all of North America, The Springs at Borrego.

 In season, there are no less than two dozen restaurants ranging from fine dining (Ram's Hill and La Casa) to fast food Mexican (Los Jilbertos).

There are lots more shopping options than you might imagine as well. Tucked out of sight in our two malls are a number of art gallerys, antiques and collectibles shops (Tumbleweed) and upscale provisioners (Borrego Outfitters).

To help you connect with the great outdoors that is Borrego's primary brand, there is the State Park Store, the State Park Visitor Center, and the Anza-Borrego Desert Natural History Nature Center.

Bottom line: Borrego Springs, with year-round warm and dry weather, incredible mountain vistas in every direction, and lots of services and amenities, is a great place to make or watch films. We'll see you here January 14-18 for the 3rd Annual Borrego Springs Film Festival.
