5Q's w/Elec McCready "Blue" Director, Writer

QUESTION#1: Can you describe your film in one sentence?

A relationship in three parts intertwined with the music that came from it.

QUESTION#2: What would you like the BSFF audience to know about your film that they wouldn't consider from it's title?

"Blue" revolves around original music, and could be thought of as a series of three music videos that tell a continuous story. Whether or not the music is to your taste, my hope is that the story is strong enough to achieve the goal of this film: sharing a feeling with you.

QUESTION#3: Can you tell us about yourself and your filmmaking career?

I'm Elec (short for Elexander), 21, and I co-direct everything with my older brother Isaac, 28. I write, he produces and handles the technical side of things and the cinematography. We've been working together since I was 14, making youtube videos and music videos and eventually short films and a feature film. We are DIY people and film school has not been our route, but we've been students of film and story since we were in kindergarten. We love striving for excellence in our work, but also love making film with a crew of friends and family. We hope to always have a friend holding the boom mic and our mom making meals for everyone on set.

QUESTION#4: What have you learned in the process of making your film?

Guerilla style filmmaking. Due to time and budget restraints we had to plan this film completely differently from anything we've done in the past. The whole film was shot with the camera on a shoulder rig, so planning became less about camera angles and more about cameraman choreography. Coming from a background of meticulously planning shots, it was exciting to try this style. However, it did put a lot more weight on the edit to sort things out. This short film took longer to edit than any previous short we've made, despite it's shorter length. So basically you pay for your "running and gunning" when you get to the edit. Also, this film taught me that the relationship between music and film is something I'm deeply interested in exploring more.

QUESTION#5: What's does the future hold for this film and you?

This film will hopefully get a few more chances to screen at festivals before being posted on our youtube channel for our small community to enjoy. For the McCready brothers, we shot a pilot for a show we'd like to make. So hopefully the future holds a season of that!
