5Q's w/Emma Randall "Earl's Town" Producer
#1: Can you describe your movie and why somebody should see it in less than 140 characters?
Earl Thompson forgets things. Even his own son, but he can still raise hell - See Earl's Town to be reminded to respect your elders!
#2: What do you want the Borrego Springs Film Festival audience to know about your film that isn’t obvious from its title?
What's not obvious from the title is that it's black comedy.
#3: What is your movie making background? Tell us about yourself.
I've been an actor in Australia for about 20 years. This is my first project as a producer. I was offered the role of Kathy in this initially, then Matt (the director) asked me to help him produce it, so I did. I had been seeking the opportunity to help make work for myself and other local creatives, so it was serendipitous. But the script had to be good... Luckily, it was fabulous! Matt is very talented and we were able to pull together wonderful team - I'm very grateful to be involved.
#4: What was the biggest lesson learned in getting your film made?
You need to stick with it, right to the end. If you're going to invest your time and money into a project, give it a chance to succeed. I don't think a film is finished until it has an audience, as they create its ultimate meaning. So remember your audience.
#5: What does the future hold for your film and you?
Hopefully a future full of film festivals so Earl finds its audience and some satisfaction for the people who made it knowing it both entertains and provokes thought. That would make me happy!
Many thanks, again we are thrilled to be playing at Borrego Springs! Woot!
