5Q's w/Peter Mancuso "Suburban Fantasy" Director, Writer, Producer

QUESTION#1: Can you describe your film in one sentence?

On the night before leaving his Rhode Island to study photography in New York City, Rocco must decide if he's willing to give up everything that he's ever known to follow his dreams.

QUESTION#2: What would you like the BSFF audience to know about your film that they wouldn't consider from it's title?

Considering the film's title, one may think Suburban Fantasy is a happy story. Rather, melancholy permeates the narrative, despite its being a musical.

QUESTION#3: Can you tell us about yourself and your filmmaking career?

I'm originally from Rhode Island (big surprise), but I moved to New York to study film at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. Currently based in Jackson Heights, Queens, I've worked in and out of the industry, focusing mainly on script consultation for clients ranging from former classmates to Elegance Bratton on his A24 film "The Inspection." Since the pandemic, I founded The New Artist Workshop, a development and production company built for the changing landscapes of the arts and entertainment industries.

QUESTION#4: What have you learned in the process of making your film?

I've learned that no time is too long to make your film. We shot the film in the summer of 2019, yet it wasn't complete for another two years. But it doesn't matter how long it takes - the only failure is to not finish it at all!

QUESTION#5: What's does the future hold for this film and you?

In addition to developing and producing projects through The New Artist Workshop, I have taken a full-time position at Cicatelli Associates, Inc., a non-profit that creates instructional materials for the public health workforce. As their new Video Production Manager, I will be managing all of video projects for their training courses, exercising my producing muscles. Hopefully, this position will give me invaluable experience when I move into more traditional media production management.
