5Q's w/Mark Gould "A Pilgrimage Into Tibet" Director
5Q's | A PILGRIMAGE INTO TIBET | MARK GOULD
#1: Can you describe your movie and why somebody should see it in less than 140 characters?
A journey takes the viewer to places and events rarely seen.
#2: What do you want the Borrego Springs Film Festival audience to know about your film that isn’t obvious from its title?
A rare journey into Tibet, great music, spectacular cinematography, incredible landscape, a history lesson, an insight into life in remote Nepal and then Chinese occupied Tibet, facing cultural genocide and the relentless juggernaut of Chinese Communist party development and repression.
#3: What is your movie making background? Tell us about yourself.
I was trained in directing theatre and moved to documentary – because fact is softer stranger than fiction.
Trained in corporate ‘trash for cash’, I gratefully left that world when I had learned enough to pursue a life as an independent doco maker. I have now made about 40 long form docos – some of which like "TIBET: MURDER IN THE SNOW," "A Winners’ Guide to the Nobel Prize," and "Moulin Gouge Girls" have won many awards.
#4: What was the biggest lesson learned in getting your film made?
Keep shooting – don’t stop! Have a mofo of a hard drive, augmented by a NAS. Use Avid (stable as a rock) and NEVER use a Mac!
#5: What does the future hold for your film and you?
The is the 4th in a series about the nature of Pilgrimage. Sell the series and keep making them. I will do more of these. Several projects in various stages of development. Work on things you care about.
