5Q's w/Justine Eugene Evans "Honor Among Thieves" Director
#1: Can you describe your movie and why somebody should see it in less than 140 characters? [Take note, for this particular answer it’s 140 letters (not words). Other answers can be as verbose as you want]
Wild West Science Fiction Done Right. 113 Film Festivals. Tons of Awards. Great Acting. Come Watch.
#2: What do you want the Borrego Springs Film Festival audience to know about your film that isn’t obvious from its title?
Honor Among Thieves is a character driven comedy. We put a tremendous amount of effort into the costumes, locations, visual effects and music because we wanted them to fade into the background, allowing the acting and dialogue to take center stage.
We’ve had people describe it as an action film, which we always find strange because there is virtually no action in the film.
#3: What is your movie making background? Tell us about yourself.
I’m a tech entrepreneur and filmmaker. I sold my first tech company about 7 months ago. I’ve taken that money and invested it into my new company, www.evanswerks.com. I’m probably more comfortable with a soldering iron and screwdriver than most filmmakers. I don’t see a difference between science and art.
#4: What was the biggest lesson learned in getting your film made?
Favors suck. Pay everyone. No one owes it to you to work for free. It's your dream to make film...not their dream. You’ll make a far, far better film if you find a way to save the money and pay everyone a fair fee.
#5: What does the future hold for your film and you?
I’m focused on growing my new company. Having my short film, Honor Among Thieves, play on the festival circuit is fun. Its not going to change my life, no one is going to discover me and Hollywood doesn’t care one damn bit about film festivals…and that’s okay. I’ll make my movies and I’m grateful if anyone watched them and enjoyed them.
