5Q's w/Yael Deynes "Can You See Me" Director

#1: Can you describe your movie and why somebody should see it in less than 140 characters?

Hopefully, this movie about the trauma of sexual assault and the struggle to reveal it to the ones you love will strike a cord with viewers and encourage them to take action.

#2: What do you want the Borrego Springs Film Festival audience to know about your film that isn’t obvious from its title?

I want the audience to know how much you can accomplish with a very tiny budget.

#3: What is your movie making background?  Tell us about yourself.

I entered the film industry in 2015 and in five short years, I have written and directed 17 short films. Additionally, I have written four full-length feature screenplays and am currently working on my fifth. Between my scripts and films, I have garnered more than 40 awards. Writing was never my original passion but it found me and I’m glad it did. I feel really lucky.

#4: What was the biggest lesson learned in getting your film made?

In every film I make, new lessons are learned. For “Can You See Me?”, I learned by speaking with survivors, that you can’t judge a book by its cover. Sometimes, a smile might be covering deep scars from past events.

#5: What does the future hold for your film and you?

The beauty of life is that the future is always unknown. I intend to keep writing and making films, that’s certain - the rest is a beautiful adventure. After its run on the film festival circuit,  “Can You See Me? will be released via Amazon Prime.
