5Q's w/Ethan Hammock "He Comes Knocking" Director
#1: Can you describe your movie and why somebody should see it?
HE COMES KNOCKING is a drama-horror about acknowledging and overcoming grief, even in the most insurmountable odds. Even as the world around you continues to crumble and fall, that doesn’t mean you have to. Acceptance and coming to terms with great loss is vital to a healthy and prosperous life.
#2: What do you want the Borrego Springs Film Festival audience to know about your film that isn’t obvious from its title?
This film is a part of a developing anthology series that takes place over the course of a biblical end-of-days apocalypse. HE COMES KNOCKING takes place at the very end of this timeline, as the world teeters on the brink of global extinction. My writer/producer/stepdad Jared Gilstrap and I hope to create more stories that are centered around this world and setting.
#3: What is your movie making background? Tell us about yourself.
I’ve loved film all my life. There’s always been this mysterious draw to creating films and showing them to people you care about. I learned that early on in my life, and I’ve been pursuing that high ever since. During high school, I studied film and television production at the Orange County School of the Arts. While at OCSA, I discovered my undying love for the post production world. I’m currently 19 and studying film production at Columbia College Chicago with an emphasis in post production technique.
#4: What was the biggest lesson learned in getting your film made?
What I learned most with HE COMES KNOCKING is the importance of an incredible crew. Even after three straight night shoots in the dead heat of a Borrego Springs summer, our crew maintained unbelievable efficiency and dedication to making this film the best it could be. This film could not have been made without their fierce determination.
#5: What does the future hold for your film and you?
I’m excited to finally let the world experience HE COMES KNOCKING! I’ve learned so much with this project, and I can’t wait to take everything I’ve experienced over the course of this film and apply it to my future work.
