5Q's w/Zeshaan Younus "Prefigured" Director
#1: Can you describe your movie and why somebody should see it?
PREFIGURED follows a reluctant individual who seeks out an esoteric support group to better understand an imposing phenomenon. Weird, right?
#2: What do you want the Borrego Springs Film Festival audience to know about your film that isn’t obvious from its title?
PREFIGURED is a grounded exploration of the paranormal; an open-ended case study into a few of the lives impacted by incomprehensible forces. It is a slow-burn sci-fi / drama that has allowed me the opportunity to explore and exorcise my own feelings of doubt, powerlessness, and renouncement.
#3: What is your movie making background? Tell us about yourself.
I am a writer, director, and producer based in Orange County, CA. PREFIGURED is the second short film I have written and directed. I began my movie making journey in mid-2017 and it's one of the most rewarding creative ventures I've ever had the privilege to pursue.
#4: What was the biggest lesson learned in getting your film made?
PREFIGURED was an exploration of texture and tone more than anything else. I learned to let the audience live in the negative visual space and between lines delivered. Rather than spoon-feeding answers and exposition, it was about crafting a certain mood within four walls and allowing viewers the opportunity to come to their own conclusions.
#5: What does the future hold for your film and you?
I have a feature film version of PREFIGURED with a very accessible and affordable budget. So hopefully, the future means securing some investors and bringing that vision to life.
