5Q's w/Mark Cade "Nice Guy" Director
#1: Can you describe your movie and why somebody should see it?
Nice Guy is a romantic comedy film infused with deep truths about human nature. After watching Nice Guy, you’ll feel a little more “awake.”
#2: What do you want the Borrego Springs Film Festival audience to know about your film that isn’t obvious from its title?
While the name of the film is NICE GUY, it’s actually about all of us. All of us (if we haven’t done so already) will at some point in our lives go on the same quest as the Nice Guy.
#3: What is your movie making background? Tell us about yourself.
I’ve been fortunate enough to have worked frequently in film and television, but always in other people’s projects. This has been a great honor but over the past few years I’ve felt a calling to tell the stories that resonated within me and my personal experience. I’ve acted in, produced and directed other people's stories but this is the first time that I’ve written, produced, directed and starred in my own film. It’s been and continues to be an amazing experience!
#4: What was the biggest lesson learned in getting your film made?
There’s no such thing as too prepared and there’s no such thing as starting too early! I started pre-production for NICE GUY well over a year before I had planned to start filming. I was diligent and thought I’d covered everything. The simple truth is that there will always be unexpected surprises, issues and delays that you couldn’t have known were going to happen. So my advice is to be over prepared so that when these things happen they won’t disrupt your project too much.
#5: What does the future hold for your film and you?
Regarding the future of NICE GUY, we may make a full length version of the film while working on a distribution deal for this version. I’m currently working on the scripts for my next two films and am very happy with how things are going. But first and foremost I believe that life is about living in the moment, so right now my main focus is NICE GUY!
I want to share this film with as many people as I can as we’re all very proud of what we’ve created! I am so grateful to be a part of the Borrego Springs Film Festival! What a fun ride!
