5Q's w/Shara Ashley Zeiger "The Red Lotus" Writer/Actor/ExProducer
SUNDAY BLOCK J | 1:00 pm
#1: Can you describe your movie and why somebody should see it in less than 280 characters?
The Red Lotus is a short about two sisters who go on a yoga retreat and are forced to grapple with their own ideas of women's reproductive rights and their place in the world. You should see it if you are a woman, know a woman, or have any women in your life.
#2: What do you want the Borrego Springs Film Festival audience to know about your film that isn’t obvious from its title?
I want audiences to know that it was inspired by dozens of interviews I conducted with women who've never shared their stories out loud. It was also shot on a shoestring with lots of favors in 2 days.
#3: What is your movie making background? Tell us about yourself.
I've been working in film and TV for awhile as an actor, writer, and producer. I've written 6 shorts that have been made, 5 of which I've produced. As an actor I've worked in indie film and episodic TV for 14 years in various shows, films, and programs.
#4: What was the biggest lesson learned in getting your film made?
I learned a lot on this film about interpersonal skills and putting the work first.
#5: What does the future hold for your film and you?
I'm working on a bunch of things behind and in front of the camera, but with the "The Red Lotus" specifically I've been working on the feature. I now have a full 86 page script I'm really proud of and a pitch deck I've developed for it. The story has grown a lot, and deepened and I'm in the process of finding investors and the right partners to help see it into production.
