Director Biography - Sashwat Mohta

Born and brought up in Kolkata, India, Sashwat Mohta found himself navigating a path predetermined by his family's deep roots in the Bengali film industry or Tollywood. He pursued a degree in business management for his bachelor's, influenced by familial expectations to gravitate towards the business side of the industry. However, he never felt a true connection to this path. Even as he pursued an MA in producing at the New York Film Academy, he found himself caught in the same cycle of disconnection. It was only when he made the bold decision to pivot towards the filmmaking program at NYFA, that everything fell into place.

Embracing the creative side of the craft, Sashwat discovered an instant and profound love for filmmaking that had eluded him before. Through writing, directing, and producing multiple short films, he found himself captivated by the art. This realization came through his unwavering commitment on set and he found his calling as a director. His latest project is a culmination of all his learning experiences at NYFA and in life. He hopes it reflects his growth and commitment to storytelling. Influenced by personal experiences, Sashwat's writing explores themes of mental health and human psychology, aiming to evoke emotion and foster understanding worldwide. Through his art, he aims to spark meaningful conversations about the human experience, challenge norms, encourage introspection, and shed light on human emotions and relationships.
